Latex 60

Features

One part, no mixing or weighing necessary. Tougher than all other mold rubbers.

Description

Latex 60 is a one-part, brush-on liquid often used for casting plaster, concrete and limited casting with some resins. It can be built up from 1/16th inch to 1/8th inch thick, when multiple coats are applied with time to dry between each coat, to form a tough rubber blanket mold.

Latex 60 has superior tear strength compared to synthetic rubbers and may be favored for molds that peel off the casting. Two-part synthetic rubbers like Gel 40 and 50 can be brushed-on to final thickness in an afternoon and should be considered for molds wherever latex is used.

Model Preparation

Porous surfaces should be sealed with shellac. Other release may not be necessary. Avoid oils, petroleum jelly, oil clays and direct application on metals. Test coat a small area to verify for adequate release.

Making the Mold

Apply a thin coat with a brush. Allow it to dry in a warm location until white color vanishes. Let the mold dry and apply another coat. Between six and thirty coats may be required.

Safety

Latex 60 contains ammonia, which is an alkaline dispersion and may cause burns of skin and eyes. Allow adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If contact occurs, flush eyes with water for 15 minutes and call a physician. Use soap and water to remove from clothes and skin.

Cleanup

Remove wet latex with soap and water. Waterless hand cleaner may be used to soften dried latex.

Storage

Store between 50°F - 70°F. Exposure to temperatures below 40ºF or above 80°F may damage latex and produce irreversible coagulation. DO NOT ALLOW TO FREEZE. Storage life is at least three months from date of shipment.
