Gel
Shell plastic is a two-part, rapid-setting liquid plastic
designed for spray applications. Do not hand mix this product.
For hand-mixed, brush-on plastic shell materials (see Gel
Plastic-75, 15-6 or 1512X). Gel Shell sets almost immediately
after contacting the surface being covered when meter-mixed
and sprayed one-to-one by volume. Depending upon thickness
and ambient temperature, shells or castings can be demolded
in approximately 2 hours. Thicknesses less than 1/4"
may need extended cure time.
Gel Shell plastic
can be sprayed to any thickness in a single application. Thin,
tough coatings can be applied to many surfaces such as carved
foam. Mold shells should be approximately 1/4 inch thick.
Shrinkage may result due to the exotherm of the resin for
shells sprayed thicker than 1/4 inch. Fiberglass strand or
mat can be laid between layers of Gel Shell for additional
strength. Supporting structures such as boards or metal rods
can be attached to avoid warping and damage during use for
significant shell sections.
